SUMMARY:2025 January – European Ski Trip to Zermatt Switzerland
DESCRIPTION:Morris County Ski Club – 2025 European Ski Trip to Switzerland \nThe 2025 European Ski Trip is to Switzerland\, skiing at Zermatt (Switzerland) and Cervinia (Italy)\, while staying 7 nights in Zermatt\, and having a 2 night extension to Geneva. \nThe trip leaves on Friday\, January 17\, 2025 at 5:30 PM and returns on Monday\, January 27th at Noon. \nWe fly on United Airlines from Newark to Geneva and return. \nThe town of Zermatt is about a 4 hour Bus ride from Geneva. \nIn Zermatt\, we will be staying at the 4 Star Hotel Alex (www.hotelalexzermatt.com) which is located in the pedestrian only area (except for electric shuttles and horse drawn sleighs). Our meal plan includes buffet breakfasts and 4 course dinner daily. There’s a good chance that wine will be provided on some nights  Enjoy the hotel bar\, free Wi-Fi\, Indoor pool\, saunas and massage rooms. Ski rentals\, ski school and guides are nearby. A short walk gets you to the Gornegrat Rail Line up to 2 ski areas or the Skibus to the other two. \nZermatt is included in the Ikon Pass Group in 2024\, so hopefully in 2025 also. \nThe Zermatt Ski Area (www.zermatt.ch) is located just below the Matterhorn\, one of the most photographed mountains in the world. The ski area is split into the Gornegrat\, Rothhorn\, Glacier Paradise and Cervinia (Italy) ski areas. There are many trails with 60 ski lifts to get you around. The trail breakdown is 22% Easy\, 60% Intermediate and 18% Advanced. You can ski from a top elevation of about 12\,000 ft. down to 5\,000 ft. so you have about 7\,000 ft. of vertical to play with. There are many mountain restaurants with beautiful views of the Matterhorn that await you for lunch and refreshments. \nAfter skiing very hard\, enjoy some après ski with cocktails around town. How about Elsie’s\, Grampi’s\, the Brown Cow or the Papperia Pub? All good spots from the 2007 trip and still there. \nDo you need a day off from downhill skiing? How about Cross Country Skiing\, Winter Hiking\, taking a few Toboggan runs\, Ice Skating or a game of Curling. Shopping can be found all over town. Or just sleep late after partying the night away throughout town and then hit the Hotel Pool and Spa. \nAfter 7 nights in Zermatt we head to Geneva for 2 nights. \nArriving in Geneva\, we will check into the 4 star Royal Hotel (www.hotelroyalgeneva.com)\, which is in the heart of Geneva with a bar and two restaurants. Breakfast and free Wi-Fi are included. \nGeneva is at the southwest corner of Lake Geneva and surrounded by the Alps. It’s the Hub for Diplomacy and Banking. Old town is a short walk from the hotel and dotted with fine buildings\, museums\, historic churches and greenspaces. Walk the narrow streets and passageways to find hidden gems and to shop\, dine and have a cocktail. Stroll along the Lake with views of the Jet d’Eau fountain. Maybe take a boat ride (winter?) \nWe have a morning flight out of Geneva at 9:15 AM on Monday January 27th to arrive back in New Jersey around noon. Flight times\, of course\, may change.
