DESCRIPTION:Turkey Mountain\nMontville\, NJ\n  \nDate: Saturday\, June 21\, 2025\nTime: 9:30 AM\n  \nMeeting Location: Pyramid Mountain Visitor’s Center \nDifficulty: Moderate  \nHike distance: 5 to 6 miles \nTime: About 3.5 hours to 4 hours \n  \nDescription: An easy to moderate hike at Turkey Mountain. There are a couple of climbs on the hike\, but they are not exceptionally long and moderate in steepness. A significant part of the hike will be easy. There are views of Lake Valhalla and NYC. The hike also passes by a waterfall on which the water flow will be dependent on recent rainfall. \n  \nImportant Notes for the hike: \n\nWe will meet in the Pyramid Mountain Visitors Center and then walk across the street to Turkey Mountain.\nIf the parking lot is full just park on the side of the road\nHiking boots are recommended as the trails could be muddy.\nDaypack to carry extra clothing\, sufficient water and your snack.\nBring Insect repellent.  \nThere is a porta-a-potty in the parking lot Restroom facilities are located inside the visitor’s center although I cannot guarantee the visitor’s center will be open at 9:30 AM..\nAddress for the visitor’s center is 472 Boonton Avenue Montville NJ.\nThe visitor’s center is about a 20-minute ride from the VFW meeting location.\nAfter the hike we may go to a nearby bar and grill.\n\nFor more information\, please contact Paul Van Duyne C (201) 470-9317. \nEmail:  p_vanduyne@yahoo.com.  Advanced sign up by e-mail is not required but is appreciated.   \nYou can also sign-up on the Meet-up site. \nTo contact Paul the day of the hike with any other questions (201) 470-9317.

DESCRIPTION:We have a reservation for ten people at American Bounty restaurant at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Poughkeepsie at 6:00 p.m.\non Saturday\, May 31. The restaurant focuses on regional and seasonal products through contemporary and traditional dishes.\n\nThe CIA is a private culinary school with 3 main restaurants (there is a French and an Italian one in addition to American Bounty).  They are operated entirely by the students\, many of whom go on to careers in the finest restaurants throughout the world.  The school is located on the banks of the beautiful Hudson River and there are many sites to see and activities to do before dinner (or the following day if people decide to stay over).\n\nIn addition to breweries and vineyards that offer tastings\, the Franklin D. DESCRIPTION:Once again\, Jodi Alper is organizing a group of volunteers to assist the Friends of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge with their Annual Roadside Clean-up.  This year the event is scheduled to take place on Saturday\, April 19th from 9:00 a.m. to noon.\n`\n`\nMany of us do hikes and runs in and around the Refuge and the cleanup is a way to ensure that it remains healthy and viable.\n`\n`\nThe team will meet at the gazebo at the Helen C. DESCRIPTION:Join your fellow Morris County Ski Club members-only trip (14 maximum) as we join with members of the High Life Ski club for a weekend of fun and skiing in Vermont from Thursday March 27th to Sunday March 30th. \nHigh Life Ski Club has been gracious enough to open up their ski lodge in Chittenden Vermont to members of the MCSC for that weekend. The lodge is located 15-20 minutes from Killington/Pico ski areas and about an hour from Sugarbush (both on the IKON pass). \nFor the bargain price of $192 (due no later than March 10th) you will receive overnight accommodations for three nights as well as a catered meal and cleaning services (meaning there are no chores for our members to do ! ).\nPlease note that beds are in multiple configurations (couples rooms\, bunk bed rooms with 4 four bunk beds each\, as well as beds in the attic area. Note that you will be expected to bring your own bedding (sleeping bag or sheets\, blanket and pillow) and bathroom necessities (own towels\, soap\, shampoo and other toiletries). Food and/or drinks can be brought and stored in the lodge kitchen area (where glasses\, plates\, pots/pans\, kitchenware\, etc. are all available for group use). Coffee and tea are also provided by the High Life Ski Club. Members and guests are required to clean up after themselves in the kitchen. Clean up includes washing\, drying and putting away any dishes\, glasses\, coffee cups that you may use \nSpots for the trip officially become available starting at the MCSC general meeting on Tuesday February 11th. \nPayments should be made by check. This hike features the famous “Tripod Rock”\, views of the NYC skyline and hiking along Taylortown Reservoir.   \nThe trailhead begins at the northern entrance to the park\, starting at a ballfield 2 miles from the Visitor Center (I recommend to use the google map directions in the link provided below).   \nFor those interested in grabbing a bite to eat afterwards\, the Reservoir Tavern in Boonton https://therestavern.com is nearby.  \nImportant Notes for the hike: \n\nHiking boots are highly recommended as the trails are rocky in spots and can be muddy.\nIf there is snow/ice on the trail\, micro spikes are highly recommended.\nDaypack to carry extra clothing\, sufficient water and a snack.  \nThere are NO restroom facilities at the trailhead. SUMMARY:2025 January – European Ski Trip to Zermatt Switzerland
DESCRIPTION:Morris County Ski Club – 2025 European Ski Trip to Switzerland \nThe 2025 European Ski Trip is to Switzerland\, skiing at Zermatt (Switzerland) and Cervinia (Italy)\, while staying 7 nights in Zermatt\, and having a 2 night extension to Geneva. \nThe trip leaves on Friday\, January 17\, 2025 at 5:30 PM and returns on Monday\, January 27th at Noon. \nWe fly on United Airlines from Newark to Geneva and return. \nThe town of Zermatt is about a 4 hour Bus ride from Geneva. \nIn Zermatt\, we will be staying at the 4 Star Hotel Alex (www.hotelalexzermatt.com) which is located in the pedestrian only area (except for electric shuttles and horse drawn sleighs). Our meal plan includes buffet breakfasts and 4 course dinner daily. There’s a good chance that wine will be provided on some nights  Enjoy the hotel bar\, free Wi-Fi\, Indoor pool\, saunas and massage rooms. Ski rentals\, ski school and guides are nearby. A short walk gets you to the Gornegrat Rail Line up to 2 ski areas or the Skibus to the other two. \nZermatt is included in the Ikon Pass Group in 2024\, so hopefully in 2025 also. \nThe Zermatt Ski Area (www.zermatt.ch) is located just below the Matterhorn\, one of the most photographed mountains in the world. The ski area is split into the Gornegrat\, Rothhorn\, Glacier Paradise and Cervinia (Italy) ski areas. There are many trails with 60 ski lifts to get you around. The trail breakdown is 22% Easy\, 60% Intermediate and 18% Advanced. You can ski from a top elevation of about 12\,000 ft. down to 5\,000 ft. so you have about 7\,000 ft. of vertical to play with. There are many mountain restaurants with beautiful views of the Matterhorn that await you for lunch and refreshments. \nAfter skiing very hard\, enjoy some après ski with cocktails around town. How about Elsie’s\, Grampi’s\, the Brown Cow or the Papperia Pub? All good spots from the 2007 trip and still there. \nDo you need a day off from downhill skiing? How about Cross Country Skiing\, Winter Hiking\, taking a few Toboggan runs\, Ice Skating or a game of Curling. Shopping can be found all over town. Or just sleep late after partying the night away throughout town and then hit the Hotel Pool and Spa. \nAfter 7 nights in Zermatt we head to Geneva for 2 nights. \nArriving in Geneva\, we will check into the 4 star Royal Hotel (www.hotelroyalgeneva.com)\, which is in the heart of Geneva with a bar and two restaurants. Breakfast and free Wi-Fi are included. \nGeneva is at the southwest corner of Lake Geneva and surrounded by the Alps. It’s the Hub for Diplomacy and Banking. Old town is a short walk from the hotel and dotted with fine buildings\, museums\, historic churches and greenspaces. Walk the narrow streets and passageways to find hidden gems and to shop\, dine and have a cocktail. Stroll along the Lake with views of the Jet d’Eau fountain. Maybe take a boat ride (winter?) \nWe have a morning flight out of Geneva at 9:15 AM on Monday January 27th to arrive back in New Jersey around noon. Flight times\, of course\, may change.
