SUMMARY:2025 January – European Ski Trip to Zermatt Switzerland
DESCRIPTION:Morris County Ski Club – 2025 European Ski Trip to Switzerland \nThe 2025 European Ski Trip is to Switzerland\, skiing at Zermatt (Switzerland) and Cervinia (Italy)\, while staying 7 nights in Zermatt\, and having a 2 night extension to Geneva. \nThe trip leaves on Friday\, January 17\, 2025 at 5:30 PM and returns on Monday\, January 27th at Noon. \nWe fly on United Airlines from Newark to Geneva and return. \nThe town of Zermatt is about a 4 hour Bus ride from Geneva. \nIn Zermatt\, we will be staying at the 4 Star Hotel Alex (www.hotelalexzermatt.com) which is located in the pedestrian only area (except for electric shuttles and horse drawn sleighs). Our meal plan includes buffet breakfasts and 4 course dinner daily. There’s a good chance that wine will be provided on some nights  Enjoy the hotel bar\, free Wi-Fi\, Indoor pool\, saunas and massage rooms. Ski rentals\, ski school and guides are nearby. A short walk gets you to the Gornegrat Rail Line up to 2 ski areas or the Skibus to the other two. \nZermatt is included in the Ikon Pass Group in 2024\, so hopefully in 2025 also. \nThe Zermatt Ski Area (www.zermatt.ch) is located just below the Matterhorn\, one of the most photographed mountains in the world. The ski area is split into the Gornegrat\, Rothhorn\, Glacier Paradise and Cervinia (Italy) ski areas. There are many trails with 60 ski lifts to get you around. The trail breakdown is 22% Easy\, 60% Intermediate and 18% Advanced. You can ski from a top elevation of about 12\,000 ft. down to 5\,000 ft. so you have about 7\,000 ft. of vertical to play with. There are many mountain restaurants with beautiful views of the Matterhorn that await you for lunch and refreshments. \nAfter skiing very hard\, enjoy some après ski with cocktails around town. How about Elsie’s\, Grampi’s\, the Brown Cow or the Papperia Pub? All good spots from the 2007 trip and still there. \nDo you need a day off from downhill skiing? How about Cross Country Skiing\, Winter Hiking\, taking a few Toboggan runs\, Ice Skating or a game of Curling. Shopping can be found all over town. Or just sleep late after partying the night away throughout town and then hit the Hotel Pool and Spa. \nAfter 7 nights in Zermatt we head to Geneva for 2 nights. \nArriving in Geneva\, we will check into the 4 star Royal Hotel (www.hotelroyalgeneva.com)\, which is in the heart of Geneva with a bar and two restaurants. Breakfast and free Wi-Fi are included. \nGeneva is at the southwest corner of Lake Geneva and surrounded by the Alps. It’s the Hub for Diplomacy and Banking. Old town is a short walk from the hotel and dotted with fine buildings\, museums\, historic churches and greenspaces. Walk the narrow streets and passageways to find hidden gems and to shop\, dine and have a cocktail. Stroll along the Lake with views of the Jet d’Eau fountain. Maybe take a boat ride (winter?) \nWe have a morning flight out of Geneva at 9:15 AM on Monday January 27th to arrive back in New Jersey around noon. Flight times\, of course\, may change.

Blue is about a 1 hr and 25 min drive from Morris Plains (Taking Route 80 West)\, and about a 1 hr and 10 min drive from Bedminster. (Taking Route 78 West) \nBlue Mountain Resort is on the IKON pass. Non-IKON pass holders can purchase tix on-line. \nBlue boasts a 1082 ft. vertical as the highest in PA.\nTrail stats:\n15 \, 5 \, and 15 or Plus 5 terrain parks.\nBlue has 11 lifts as well as 1 high speed quad and 2 high speed six pack lifts. \nMeet time: between 9:00 and 9:30 in the Valley Lodge (see picture above) Walk past the coffee bar to the back room. Plenty of tables and cubbies on the right as you walk in. \nSuggestion: Afterward meet at the Covered Bridge Inn for adult beverages and a bite to eat. DESCRIPTION:Morris County Ski Club Hike            Sterling Forest/Bare Rock Tuxedo\, NY\nDate:  Saturday\, October 26\, 2024\nTime:  9:30 AM\nMeeting Location:  Sterling Forest Visitor Area \nDifficulty:  Moderate/Strenuous  \nHike distance: About 8 miles \nTime: About 4.5 hours \n  \nDescription: Join the Morris Ski Club on a moderate/strenuous hike in the Sterling Forest of New York.    First we will visit the remnants of an old iron mine and furnace.  After a few miles we will arrive at Bare Rock which offers a fantastic view of Greenwood Lake including the parts where we have gone paddle boarding.  We will then continue the hike with a climb involving some minor rock scrambling to the Sterling Forest Fire Tower for some additional views.  We will finish off the day by going to a nearby bar and grill (probably Rhodes North). \nImportant Notes for the hike: \n\nHiking boots are highly recommended as the trails are rocky in spots and can be muddy\nDaypack to carry extra clothing\, sufficient water and your snack or lunch.  \nBare Rock and the Fire Tower are great for photos.\nRestroom facilities are located inside the visitor’s center.\nGPS Coordinates: 41.19787\,-74.256125.\nCell Phone reception can be spotty at the visitor’s center\n\n  \nDirections to the hike location from Morristown: \n\nTake I-287 North – merging briefly onto the NYS Thruway (toward Albany) but \n\nimmediately exiting at 15A onto Rte 17 North  \n\nTurn left at the bottom of the ramp onto Route 17 and head north for 1.4 miles to the exit for Sterling Forest.\nFollow Sterling Mine Road (County Route 72) west for 3.0 miles.\nAt the traffic light\, turn right onto Long Meadow Road (County Route 84).\nTake Long Meadow Road past IBM for a total of 3.5 miles.\nTurn left onto Old Forge Road\nAfter 0.3 mile make a right and continue on Old Forge Road.\nParking lot will be on the right.  The Visitor’s Center is a short walk from the parking lot.\n\n  \nFor additional directions enter Sterling Forest Visitor’s Center.  \n  \nFor more information please contact Paul Van Duyne C (201) 470-9317. \nEmail:  p_vanduyne@yahoo.com.  Advanced sign up by e-mail is not required but is appreciated.   \nTo contact Paul the day of the hike with any other questions (201) 470-9317.  After 9 AM you may also have to try the Visitors Center (1-845-351-5907) due to poor cell phone reception.

DESCRIPTION:BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND – MCSC PICKLEBALL EVENT \nOn Friday September 27th\, join MCSC for a fun night of pickleball at the courts in the Timberbrooke Townhouse complex on Washington Valley Road in Bedminster across from Hills Drive. \nOnce again this event is for all levels. We will have 2 courts. Our resident expert\, George will give tips to the intermediate players while Gina will coach the beginners. We will have extra paddles and plenty of balls. Space is limited to 16 people\, so if you are interested in coming let RSVP  ASAP.  \nAfterwards we can walk across the street and enjoy some pizza and drinks (BYOB) at Panatieri’s in the Fresh Market Shopping Center. \nDate:   Friday 9/27/24 \nTime:   Pickleball 5:30 pm – 7:00 \nPizza 7:00 – ? \nCost:    Pickleball is free\, but we will split the cost of the pizzas. BYOB  \nBring:   Paddle & water. If you bring balls\, be sure to put your name/initials on them. \nRSVP: Text Gina at 908-240-8715.
