Morris County Ski Club Hike                                  

Pyramid Mountain, Kinnelon, NJ

Elevation gain: 715 feet

Time: About 3 hours

Description: Join the Morris County Ski Club on a moderate hike at Pyramid Mountain in New Jersey. This hike features the famous “Tripod Rock”, views of the NYC skyline and hiking along Taylortown Reservoir.  

The trailhead begins at the northern entrance to the park, starting at a ballfield 2 miles from the Visitor Center (I recommend to use the google map directions in the link provided below).  

For those interested in grabbing a bite to eat afterwards, the Reservoir Tavern in Boonton https://therestavern.com is nearby. 

Important Notes for the hike:

1. Hiking boots are highly recommended as the trails are rocky in spots and can be muddy.
2. If there is snow/ice on the trail, micro spikes are highly recommended.
3. Daypack to carry extra clothing, sufficient water and a snack.  
4. There are NO restroom facilities at the trailhead. A porta-potty is located at the Visitor Center, which is 2 miles away (see directions below). 

Directions to the meeting location from Morristown (https://maps.app.goo.gl/ELoMkiTFfyveTqeM6):

• Take I-287 North to exit 45 (Wootton St/Boonton)
• Continue on Park Ave (0.1 miles)
• Turn left on Wootton St (go 0.6 miles)
• Turn right on Boonton Ave (go 2 miles)
• Turn right onto Rockaway Valley Rd. (go 150 ft)
• Turn left on Boonton Ave (go about 3 miles). (You’ll pass the Pyramid Mountain 

Visitor’s Center on the left after about 1 mile if you need to use the porta-potty.) 

• Parking lot will be on the left by the ballfield.
