Hike distance: 5 to 6 miles
Time: About 3.5 hours to 4 hours
Description: An easy to moderate hike at Turkey Mountain. There are a couple of climbs on the hike, but they are not exceptionally long and moderate in steepness. A significant part of the hike will be easy. There are views of Lake Valhalla and NYC. The hike also passes by a waterfall on which the water flow will be dependent on recent rainfall.
Important Notes for the hike:
- We will meet in the Pyramid Mountain Visitors Center and then walk across the street to Turkey Mountain.
- If the parking lot is full just park on the side of the road
- Hiking boots are recommended as the trails could be muddy.
- Daypack to carry extra clothing, sufficient water and your snack.
- Bring Insect repellent.
- There is a porta-a-potty in the parking lot Restroom facilities are located inside the visitor’s center although I cannot guarantee the visitor’s center will be open at 9:30 AM..
- Address for the visitor’s center is 472 Boonton Avenue Montville NJ.
- The visitor’s center is about a 20-minute ride from the VFW meeting location.
- After the hike we may go to a nearby bar and grill.
